About the brand:

Born in 2015, the original “Alaskan Float” was a delicate necklace, designed to lay daintily in the space between your collarbones. Inspired by the Japanese glass floats that began washing up on the rocky shores of Southeast Alaska in the years following the 2011 Tsunami, many floats shattered upon impact. However, the occasional float survived its landing. Finding these floats is akin to finding a “diamond in the rough.”

Over time, Alaskan Floats expanded from the original necklaces to include apparel and other tourist wares, featuring the artwork and design of Alaska-dweller and creator, Madelaine Voegeli.

For those in Southeast Alaska, finding a glass float is the thrill of a lifetime. Just like finding an intact float, Alaskan Floats aims to not only tag along for, but push you along on your adventures of a lifetime. Adventure on, and go find your float.

About the founder:

Madelaine Voegeli likes to dream. And she likes to make things happen.

Born on the east coast, raised in the Midwest, and residing in the small fishing town of Craig, AK on Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska at present, she lives life fully and refuses to believe that anything can’t be done. She believes that life is what you make it, and that working hard will produce the life you want.

Madelaine lives with her head in the clouds, and those who hang around tend to be dragged up to Cloud 9 with her. Life is good.

Madelaine’s fine art can be viewed at her gallery, Strictly Local, in Craig.
